Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)

JEE Main and JEE Advanced replace the AIEEE and IIT JEE

JEE main entrance exam, JEE main admit card, JEE Advaced entrance exam, JEE main syllabus pdf, JEE main previous year question papers: The All India Entrance Examination was an examination which was organized by CBSE in India. This exam was introduced in 2002. This National level competitive test is for taking admission in various under-graduate engineering and architecture courses in institutes accepting the AIEEE score. It is an objective type examination which consists of only two papers: Paper 1 for B.tech/B.E. and Paper 2 for B.Arch. It is on candidate to opt for any one or both the exams. This examination was generally held on last Sunday of April and results were announced in the last week of May or first week of June. The examination used to be held on pen paper mode till 2010. But in 2011 Ministry of Human Resources Department ordered CBSE to conduct paper in Computer Based Test mode. This prestigious entrance examination is a gateway to many central government funded institutes like National Institute of Technologies, IITs, and Deemed Universities etc.

In 2012 JEE came into picture which replaced the AIEEE and IIT-JEE exams. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) consists of two parts: JEE mains and advanced. JEE advanced is for taking admission in IITs. While JEE mains is for IIITs, NITs, and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes. Only the student who have cleared JEE mains are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced. The minimum academic qualification required for entering in the under graduate courses through JEE is to pass the final exams of 10+2 or its equivalent. JEE is of 3 hours duration having objective type questions covering Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. All subjects have equal weightage. There is negative marking for wrong answers. 4 marks are awarded for 1 correct answer and 1 mark is deducted for wrong answer. JEE pattern has under gone many changes. Since 2010 candidates are given copies of their answers and cutoffs are announced. Since 2013-14 JEE has changed a lot and recently adopted new online admissions and application selection procedures which were not available in recent years.

This competitive exam has led to the foundation of a large no. of institutes which are providing guidance to the candidates appearing in JEE. They provide candidates coaching in all the 3 subjects after the schools. This helps candidates scoring good marls and performing better in JEE exams. In 2014 Chitraang Murdia topped the exam with 334 marks. 119,581 students appeared for JEE advanced out of which 27,152 qualified. In 2015 two papers were of 504 marks overall, sharp increase from the regular trend of about 350 marks. Changes in the pattern of examination were shocking. It surprised the candidates nationwide. There were no single-correct multiple choice questions at all, all of them were multi-correct. Also the level of negative marking was increased.

According to IIT Bombay statistics 1, 17,238 candidates appeared for the examination out of which 26,456 were shortlisted for admission to IITs. The JEE board of conduct refreshes the pattern of examination every year to ensure the merit-based selection and genuinity of the test. In order to further transparentize the merit based admission process JEE admission board is planning to replenish the exam pattern from 2017. From 2017 onwards there will be a compulsory “Science Aptitude Test”. This test cannot be gamed by coaching institutes.
