Ignou Regional Centre Jammu – The Indira Gandhi National Open University has established almost 56 regional centres in India to facilitate the education all over the country.

The university has established the regional Centres in different states and cities to provide the prospectus, admission, conducting the examination, and other related help to the students.

The university has established the Ignou Regional Centre Jammu in 1988 which has been located in the heart of the City of temples.

The operation of the regional centre in Jammu had started in response to an invitation from Jammu and Kashmir government to reach the students living in rural areas and provide them the facility of higher education through Open learning via distance mode.

Later in 1999, the separate Regional Centre in Srinagar was established by Ignou to cut down the load on Jammu Centre.

There was only one Study Centre with IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu when its operation was started in the state.

Now, the regional centre Jammu has established the network of more than 50 Learner Centres which has been spread over various regions of Jammu including Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Bhalessa, Surankote, Sunderbani, Rajouri, Gool, Kathua, Samba, R S Pura, Udhampur, Chhatroo, Patnitop, Ramban, Poonch.

Also, few IGNOU Learner Centres in Jammu has been set up in several Jails to impart education to the prisoners free of cost.
