The Badminton Association of India has been all set to organize its mega tournament known as “Premier Badminton League (PBL)” from Jan 2016. Earlier the PBL was known as Indian Premier League and it was organized in the year 2013. But for last two consecutive years, the BAI was not able to organize the League due to some reasons. The league is all set to be shown on Star Sports as the channel has been awarded with the broadcast rights. The viewers can enjoy the matches at the evening prime time on their TV sets.This lucrative Premier Badminton League is a win-win situation for the badminton players as they will be taken by various franchisees in the auction process which involves huge dough.
The Indian shuttler, Saina Nehwal went to the Awadh Warriors, Lucknow as they bid on her for $1 lakh and it becomes the maximum bid. The Malaysian badminton player, Lee Chong Wei has been owned by Hyderabad Hunters for USD 100,000 in the Indian Premier Badminton League auction.
Timing/Telecast: The tournament will start from 2nd January, 2016 with lot of money will be supposed to be spend on opening ceremony. It will be concluded with the finale on 17th January, 2016. There will be total of 18 matches in this mega tournament which includes two semi-finals and one final match. The grand finale of PBL will be hosted by New Delhi.
The 50 shutters has to be auctioned for PBL 2016 event which will be owned by six franchises. We have mentioned below the list of franchisees with their team names and spons:
